Due to demand hugely outstripping supply, the LCBP grants for householders are now divided into monthly allocations of half a million pounds. The scheme accepts grant applications from 9am on the first day of each month. In February the funds lasted around 75 minutes before running out. Paper applications take around 15 days to process - if no funds are available at that point, the form is returned to the applicant, inviting them to re-apply next month.

The use of rooftop wind turbines for microgeneration has had a somewhat checkered history, with many arguing that they are seriously inefficient, and may represent a negative return on energy invested in many circumstances. The Warwick Microwind Trial aims to provide conclusive and objective data on real installations.

Bristol and the East Midlands will this week be named as the first places where a new network of eco-friendly houses is to be created.
Ministers are working with English Partnerships, the regeneration agency, to establish dozens of small-scale communities across England made up of only zero-carbon or low-carbon houses, to help reduce the impact of climate change. Initially 1,000 such homes will be built.

Sharp is investing £9.3M in its Wrexham PV manufacturing facility, doubling the production capacity to 220MW with the installation of a new production line. The investment comes as a response to the enormous global demand stimulated by German (and other European) feed tariffs.
