Due to demand hugely outstripping supply, the LCBP grants for householders are now divided into monthly allocations of half a million pounds. The scheme accepts grant applications from 9am on the first day of each month. In February the funds lasted around 75 minutes before running out. Paper applications take around 15 days to process - if no funds are available at that point, the form is returned to the applicant, inviting them to re-apply next month.

Grant schemes like this are just going to make the whole green energy sector look amateurish - and knowing that grants MIGHT be available will mean that customers wont go ahead until they get the grant. So now installations are basically being capped at however many grants are being given per month. If that is a thousand grants over the next three years, surely it makes more sense to bung them out over the next three months, then everyones can get back to installing without having the carrot constantly pulled out of their reach.
"1st February 2007 will be long be remembered by our members as the day that the Low Carbon Buildings Programme finally descended into farce.
"But I hope that it isn't the day that thousands of householders also gave up on their ambition to invest in secure, renewable energy for their homes".
